Conducting Portrait

Sam began composing at the age of 12, initially experimenting with song-writing and pop music production. At this time he became the lead singer of a boy band, gaining early knowledge and becoming instrumental in the song writing and post-production of their output. He then moved on to explore eletronic music production and formed the music due 'Lock 'N' Loud'. With major releases and airplay on BBC Radio 1, their tracks have attracted over 300,000 plays online. More recently, Sam has developed his own solo pop music project 'Place of Mind'.

For the film industry, his first commission was at the age of 15 when he provided an original score for the comedy short, 'Forward to the Past', a spoof based on the successful Back to the Future series. This film circulated the independent film festivals in and around London.

His classical background has focussed on singing, which continues to be an important part of his life. He currently holds a choral scholarship in London and as a teenager, he appeared in many lead musical theatre roles. His years in the boy band and his electronic music projects gave him the opportunity to explore studio vocal recording, which still forms a significant part of his current work. This diverse range of musical genres has all played into his compositional style, with theatre fuelling his interest in film and musicals, and jazz and choral music influencing his harmonic language.
